Privacy Policy

In short: You sign in with Apple or an email code. The shelf prices you scan are shared with other shoppers, with the store and the date, never with your name or email. Your trips, budget and grocery list stay on your iPhone. You can delete your account at any time in the app.
Who we are
This policy covers the Strago iPhone app and this website. If you have a question about your privacy, write to support@strago.co.
Your account
Comparing stores works because shoppers share the prices they scan, so Strago needs a personal account. You sign in with Apple or with a one-time code sent to your email; there is no password. We store your account identifier and, when you give one, your email address. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your real email.
You can delete your account in the app's Settings. That removes your account, email and profile. Prices you shared stay in Strago with no link to you, because they describe a store, not a person.
Prices you share
When you scan a shelf price during a trip, Strago shares with other shoppers:
- the product's barcode and the price on the shelf (regular, sale, multi-buy or member price);
- the store's name, address and map location;
- the date and time of the scan.
A price is shared about 10 minutes after the scan, so a scan you undo is never shared. Prices scanned before you created your account aren't shared, and neither are trips where you typed the store name yourself. Other shoppers see prices per store, never who reported them.
What stays on your iPhone
- your shopping trips, budget and currency;
- your cart and your own price history;
- your grocery list.
These aren't synchronized between devices. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or your computer, Apple's backup may include them, under Apple's terms. Deleting the app deletes them from your iPhone.
Who processes data for Strago
| Provider | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase, in Canada | Your account and the shared prices | Hosting of the Strago database. |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple; your location when you start a trip, if you allow it | Signing in, and suggesting nearby stores. Strago doesn't save your location, only the store you pick. |
| Open Food Facts and UPCitemdb | A barcode number only | Finding a product's name and brand. |
| Anthropic | A package photo, only when you choose to take one | Reading the name, size and origin printed on it. The photo isn't kept. |
| An email delivery provider | Your email address | Sending your sign-in code. |
Camera
Barcodes and shelf labels are read on your iPhone; those camera images aren't saved or sent. The only image that leaves your iPhone is a package photo you choose to take to name an unknown product.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no advertising or analytics tracking.
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We never show your name or email with a price.
Your choices
- You can refuse or later turn off camera and location access in the iPhone's Settings. Without location, you type the store name yourself, and that trip's prices aren't shared.
- You can delete your account in Settings, or ask us at support@strago.co.
Children
Strago is a shopping tool and isn't directed at children under 13.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies or analytics, and doesn't load anything from other companies' servers.
Changes
If Strago starts handling data differently, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the date above.
